The Responders Performance Vehicle is an emergency vehicle which evolved for the need to provide rehabilitation to firefighters and mitigate the risk of heat injury during prolonged fire-fighting in large scale fire incidents in the Rapid Cooling Zone (RCZ), eight firefighters at medium risk of heat injury in the Deep Cooling Zone (DCZ) and 1 firefighter with the Cold Water Immersion (CWI) tub.
The RCZ is situated externally to the vehicle and features air ventilation and portable forearm immersion chairs where firefighters can immerse their forearms into water troughs with water at a temperature of 15⁰C (non-regulated).
The DCZ is situated within the main body of the vehicle and its meant to provide rehabilitation to firefighters at a medium risk of heat injury. There are 8 purpose built Forearm immersion chairs with automated cycle controls and regulated water temperature of 12-15 ⁰C for increased heat loss. The DCZ also features patient vital monitoring systems for paramedics to assess if any of the firefighters are at a higher risk of heat injury
The CWI system utilises its own built in chiller system to cool the water in the tub down to 5⁰C. The system is able to regulate and maintain the water at 5⁰C even with the heat load of the patient in the water.
